Alexander 'Joe' Dickerson

January 18, 1950 - April 12 , 2023

The family of Alexander Dickerson of Holland Centre sadly announce his passing at GBHS Markdale, on Wednesday April 12, 2023, at age 73. Loving husband of 11 years to Eliane Preiss. Proud father of Mike Dickerson of Kincardine, Steph Dickerson of Ottawa, Richard Preiss (Tracy) of Holland Centre, and Elizabeth Huston (Scott) of Toronto and doting “Grandpa Joe” to Hayden. Dear brother of Christine White (Maurice) of the UK. Fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Nellie Dickerson (nee Mayes).

Joe grew up in southwestern England and from a young age had a strong value of right, wrong and fairness, and was known to be fiercely loyal to his friends. He joined the Royal Air Force and attained the rank of Sergeant. Testing his teamwork and athletic ability, he completed the Ten Tors Endurance Challenge in Dartmoor National Park, a test of endurance, navigation, and survival skills. Throughout his life, he remained a loyal fan of Southampton FC, which competes in the Premier League. He came to Canada in 1976, and for many years, worked at Bruce Power as a Control Maintenance Technician, helping the company become more efficient. Public service was always important to Joe, and among his service club memberships are the Lions Club of Kincardine and Holland Centre, member (and grandmaster for a bit) with the Freemasonry, member of the Shriners, and a strong advocate for the preservation of the natural environment in Kincardine.
Other interests included his love of music, as he was a talented singer and guitarist performing at the Summerfolk Music and other Festivals, and karate, earning a black belt in the sport at the Japanese Canadian Culture Centre. He could also speak some French and German. Above all of these accomplishments, he was a proud father, a wonderful husband and a kind and generous man who made a difference in many peoples lives.

Cremation has taken place, and arrangements have been entrusted to the Garafraxa Hill Funeral Home, Chatsworth. A Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a later date. The family wish to thank Dr. Winfield and Dr. Sandhu for their outstanding care and compassion. If desired, donations to the Cancer Society , Lions Club of Holland Centre, or United Way of Bruce Grey, would be appreciated by the family. Condolences may be expressed online at www.garafraxahillfuneral.com
