Malcolm "Mac" Vernon Rutherford Gamble
December 31, 1932 - May 14, 2024
Surrounded by his loved ones, Malcolm Gamble, lovingly known as “Mac” or “Plow Boy”, passed peacefully at Chapman House in Owen Sound, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the age of 91. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Maizie Elizabeth Gamble (nee Cole), and their children Brian Gamble (Renee), Ian Gamble (Lois), and Connie Radbourne (Harvey). Proud grandfather of 8, and great-grandfather of 13. Loving brother of Joyce Barfoot, Mabel Danard (Howard), and Mary Turner (Mac). Mac was predeceased by his parents Malcolm M. and Dorothy Gamble (nee Barber) and brother Allen Gamble. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the community he touched throughout his life.
From his roots in Sullivan Township, Mac had a zest for life and enjoyed a wide range of hobbies. He could often be found curling, playing euchre, competing in plowing competitions, dancing, hunting, fishing, and judging crops. His commitment to his community was evident through his long-time membership at St.Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Chatsworth, where he served as an elder and Clerk of Session. Additionally, Mac dedicated himself to serving the community as an elected member of the township council in Sullivan. He was also a valued member of the Sydenham Sportsman Club and actively participated as a 4-H leader and member of the Chatsworth Agricultural Society.
Mac's true passion lay in working on the land. From picking stones to planting and harvesting crops, he found solace and fulfillment in the agricultural lifestyle. His favourite place in the world was in the bush, whether hunting, or searching for blackberries or morels. He also had a deep appreciation for sports, particularly curling, hockey, and baseball. Mac's love for dancing and his friendly nature brought joy and warmth to many social gatherings. Remembered as a kind, hardworking, and community minded man, Mac leaves behind a legacy of dedication and service. His career as a longtime dairyman reflects his commitment to his profession and the agricultural industry.
