Albert Alexander McConnell
January 16, 1929 - December 23, 2024

It is with great sadness the family of Albert McConnell announce his peaceful passing at Owen Sound Hospital, on Monday December 23, 2024. Loving husband of 59 years to Irene McConnell (nee Mills) who predeceased him in 2012. Dear father of Judy Pringle (Bob), Keith McConnell, Karl McConnell (Anne), Diane Flannery (James) and Mark McConnell (Joyce). Sadly missed by 11 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren. Also survived by daughter-in-law Jo-Anne McConnell, and by his many loving great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, family and friends. Predeceased by daughter-in-law Shelley McConnell (nee Osadzuk), his parents Richard and Orvilla McConnell (nee Bumstead), and siblings Gordon McConnell (Eileen), Thelma Genoe (Carmen), Marjorie Vokes (Ken), Rosalie Moore (Elwood), June Cruickshank (Wilmer), and Mary McConnell.

Albert was born January 16, 1929, in St.Vincent Twp, on the family farm. He lived with his 1 brother, 5 sisters, and their parents Richard and Orvilla. When Albert was 13, the family was forced to move off their tank range farm. Their new farm became “Maple Lane” south of Kilsyth. When his father died a few years later, Albert took over the farm responsibility for his mother, under the guidance of his uncle George McConnell. Albert was primarily a beef farmer, although there were sheep around for many years. In the early 50's he met and married Irene Mills and together they farmed and raised their family of Judy, Karl, Keith, Diane and Mark. Hereford cattle, hay and pasture were the mainstream of Albert's farming. However, in the mid 60's Albert decided to sell his Hereford cows and concentrate on hay and pasture with stocker cattle. Albert's family were very involved with the farm throughout their teenage years doing chores and “a lot of hay!” as well as maple syrup. After Judy and Diane left the farm, Albert made many trips to western Canada to buy beef calves for their ever expanding operations of Karl, Keith and Mark. Albert continued to live on his beloved farm after Irene's death in 2012. He eventually moved to Owen Sound to live out the remainder of his life at Kelso Villa Retirement Home.

A private family Funeral Service will be held at Kilsyth United Church. Spring interment Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound. If desired, donations to the Kilsyth United Church or Owen Sound Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.garafraxahillfuneral.com
