An unknown source once said, "When words are inadequate have a ritual".

Rituals are symbolic activities that help us, together with our families and friends, express our deepest thoughts and feelings about life's most important events. Just like a birthday, or a wedding, a funeral too is a ritual that holds significance.

Rich in history and rife with symbolism, the funeral ceremony helps us acknowledge the reality of the death, gives testimony to the life of the deceased, and encourages the expression of grief in a way consistent with the culture's values.

Most importantly, the funeral ritual provides support to mourners, allows for the embracing of faith and beliefs about life and death, and offers continuity and hope for the living.

As a mother,  friend, lover of people and life,  I am deeply concerned that individuals, families and their loved ones receive a funeral service that aids in the reconciliation that are central to healing in grief, or beam light through remembrance.

In other words, bereaved people who have these needs met, through their own grief work and through the love and compassion of those around them, are most often able to reconcile their grief and go on to find continued meaning in life and living.
